Every morning I walk past labs full of people doing the hardest kind of work there is: turning an idea into something real. It’s the best view in climate. And the longer I have this seat, the more convinced I am that their success depends on all of us—which is exactly why I’m glad you’re here.
Here’s what we believe. We are living through the most significant redesign of industrial systems since the Industrial Revolution—how we generate energy, build cities, make materials, move goods, and grow food. All of it, all at once.
Look at energy. Demand is climbing fast, with electrification, manufacturing, and the explosion of data centers and AI all pulling on the grid. At the same moment, we have a once-in-a-century opening to meet that demand with clean power. The capital is already moving: global investment in clean energy is at record highs, trillions of dollars a year. More energy AND fewer emissions.
Look at how we make things. The world is building and manufacturing more than ever, and that expansion is our chance to design out emissions, toxicity, and microplastics from the start, rather than cleaning them up later. Build more AND build cleaner.
And look at work itself. The jobs landscape is being redrawn in real time, and here’s what most people miss: new jobs come overwhelmingly from new companies. Decade after decade, it’s young firms that create most of the net new jobs. If you care about jobs, you care about new businesses. Build more AND build cleaner AND put more people to work.
Some see all this change as a crisis to manage. We see the opportunity of a lifetime, because we refuse the old trade-off: prosperity AND a thriving planet, neither at the expense of the other. We call it the Power of AND.
That future gets built by entrepreneurs—bold, gritty, willing to challenge the status quo. They’re how a breakthrough becomes something the world can buy, whether cheaper energy storage, cleaner steel, carbon pulled back out of the air, or any number of other innovations.
But 15 years have taught us this: strong companies rarely fail because the science was wrong. They fail in the hardest stretch, from first prototype to first customer, because they run out of time, money, or believers. That stretch isn’t a test of the founder alone; it’s a test of the community around them. Where a company builds matters as much as what it builds.
That’s why Greentown exists. In Boston, in the middle of the world’s densest innovation ecosystem, and in Houston, where the world’s energy industry is reinventing itself, founders find the labs, the talent, the capital, and the first customers to move faster. Industry partners find their front door to what’s next. And everyone finds a community that leans in.
Our vision is simple to say and worth a lifetime of work: more energy, fewer emissions, and good jobs—built by entrepreneurs, backed by all of us.
So come find us. If you’re a founder, come build here—this community was made for you. And if you’re ready to get behind the builders: tour the labs, pilot a technology, mentor, invest, donate. This is a decisive decade, and it will go faster, and be more fun, with you in it.
With urgent optimism,
Georgina Campbell Flatter
CEO, Greentown Labs
Climate change is one of the greatest transformation opportunities in human history. The question is how fast we can move.

The way the world makes energy, builds cities, moves goods, grows food, and runs industry didn’t happen by accident.
It was built—deliberately, incrementally, over centuries—into the interlocking systems that power modern life.
And it can be rebuilt, better and faster than ever before.

Industry built the modern world. Now it has to rebuild itself — cleaner, smarter, faster.
Progress shouldn't cost us the planet. We're changing that.
We provide entrepreneurs with the community, resources, and ecosystem to move faster.

Purpose-built labs and infrastructure for prototyping and R&D, located in the global hubs where industry is already moving.

The world's largest and most interconnected community of climate and energy innovators. Because founders go further when they're not going it alone.

Structured pathways to customers, capital, and pilots that compress the distance between a promising technology and a transformed market.

Grit, urgency, and an unshakeable belief that the impossible is closer than it looks. Especially when you're working on it together.
“Greentown represents what's possible when bold founders are given the space, support, and community to tackle the world's hardest climate challenges. It's not just an incubator—it's a catalyst for real, scalable change.”

“When you get a coffee, I think the most magical question that you can ask another founder is, 'How's progress?' It opens a floodgate of information back and forth of helping each other. What's at the heart of it is you enter into a world where you're not alone.”

“The first prototype we ran in the lab was a Frankenstein of borrowed equipment and free advice from the bench next door. None of that exists outside of Greentown.”

“Greentown is where I find the founders other investors haven't met yet. The signal-to-noise here is unmatched — every conversation moves something forward.”

A dense ecosystem of founders, researchers, world-class universities, and climate-focused investors at the forefront of what's next.

The energy transition capital of the world — home to the industry giants, infrastructure, workforce, and capital that carry new technologies from pilot to global deployment.
Who we exist for
Founders are our north star. Greentown was built by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs — and we’re betting on them to solve the world’s hardest climate and energy challenges and capture transformational opportunities. We protect their time. We remove friction. We design everything around helping them move faster. And we carry empathy for the pressure they carry.
In practice: when a decision is unclear, ask “what would the founder want?”
How we collaborate
Progress happens when ecosystems move together. We listen generously, collaborate across teams, sites, and networks, and build trust through follow-through. We leverage and invest in our unique strengths. We share credit, information, and opportunities.
A win for Boston is a win for Houston (and vice-versa). A startup succeeding is a win for all of us.
The mindset we bring
We believe the climate and energy challenges are solvable — and that belief compels action. We move with speed, learn quickly, and don’t wait for perfect conditions when progress is needed now.
Optimism at Greentown isn’t passive hope. It’s a bias toward action. The urgency is real — and so is the opportunity.
How we behave
We operate with the same mindset we ask of the founders we serve: ownership, urgency, and resourcefulness. We anticipate problems before they arrive. We take responsibility for results, not just effort. We move from idea to action.
We treat constraints as fuel for creativity.
How it feels to work here
We take the work seriously — and ourselves lightly. We stay curious, bring joy to the work, and make room for creativity, humor, and human connection. We show up as whole humans.
Hard things are more fun when you’re building them together.
How we measure success
The “why” really matters to us. We focus on real-world outcomes: more energy, fewer emissions, and good jobs. Revenue discipline and mission impact go hand in hand — a strong Greentown enables stronger startups.
We measure what matters, not what’s easiest.

Fifteen years ago, a group of founders bet that a sense of community could change the trajectory of their companies. Turns out they were right.
