GeoKiln Energy Innovation is a Houston-based deep-tech startup developing Manufactured Subsurface Hydrogen (MSSH™), a breakthrough approach to producing low-cost, low-carbon hydrogen using subsurface heat and geology. By applying proven geoscience and thermal engineering techniques, GeoKiln accelerates natural mineral reactions to generate scalable hydrogen with minimal surface footprint. The company is focused on real-world pilots and partnerships to unlock a new, domestic source of clean hydrogen for industrial and energy markets. GeoKiln’s Manufactured Subsurface Hydrogen (MSSH™) solution uses controlled subsurface heat and engineered well systems to accelerate hydrogen-generating mineral reactions in iron-rich geologic formations. By combining subsurface modeling, thermal stimulation, and existing oil-and-gas drilling techniques, GeoKiln produces low-carbon hydrogen in situ with a small surface footprint. The approach is designed to scale from field pilots to commercial production, enabling cost-competitive hydrogen for industrial and energy applications.
