Solas Capture
Solas Capture is developing a sunlight-powered process for sustainable lithium carbonate production using novel photobase chemistry. Our technology converts lithium brines and CO₂ into battery-grade materials with lower energy use, reduced waste, and a significantly smaller environmental footprint than conventional methods.
Solas Capture is developing a light-driven separation platform for critical minerals. Solas Capture's proprietary photochemical system replaces conventional acid-base intensive separation chemistry with reversible, light-activated polymers, dramatically reducing operating cost, waste generation, and infrastructure complexity in mineral processing. The initial focus is rare earth element separation and lithium brine upgrading, where cleaner and more efficient refining technologies are urgently needed to support the growing AI, energy, and defense supply chains Solas Capture is developing a proprietary light-driven separation platform that uses photoresponsive polymers to selectively bind and release critical mineral ions via photoirradiation. By replacing bulk chemical dosing with reversible photochemical switching, the platform dramatically reduces reagent consumption, waste generation, and infrastructure complexity compared to conventional solvent extraction. The technology is initially being developed for rare earth element separation and lithium brine upgrading, with future applications across broader critical mineral and battery material supply chains.
