Yesterday, we held our first Access to Success event in Houston to highlight some of our underrepresented founders. Guests heard pitches from member companies Boxes, Carbonext, CLS Wind, Dsider, Fysikes Bio, Global ROC, Intention, MicroEra Power, Micronic Technologies, and Pressure Corp. And we were privileged to have Vidisha Prasad, Mark Crawford (who also served as our keynote speaker!), Fatimah Bello, and Bobby Tudor as the pitch judges. Global ROC was selected as the winner of the $5k cash prize for its chemical-free water treatment technology. Yesterday also kicked off National Hispanic Heritage Month, paying tribute to the contributions and influence of Hispanic and Latinx Americans on the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. We are also excited to share this spotlight on our member Elemental Recycling. The company’s CO2 equivalent (CO2e) neutral recycling process creates high-purity graphene, graphite, and hydrogen. “Even with just graphite, we’re filling a huge need: all the natural graphite in the United States is imported, and synthetic graphite has a very high CO2e footprint,” says Ian Bishop, the company’s co-founder, president, and CFO. “We’re CO2e-neutral, because we use electric heat generated through solar and wind power.” Click here to read more about the void the company aims to fill as well as its recent Series A raise, led by Freestone—an investor who found the startup through Greentown’s Deal Flow Digest.

Are you a startup with material innovations for automotive efficiency, shared and future mobility or materials and process innovations for recycling? Apply to Greentown’s Go Move 2022—the inaugural program in the Go Move track of Greentown Go. In partnership with BASF and Magna, the accelerator program seeks to decarbonize the lifecycle impact of the automotive industry. Accepted startups will receive mentorship, networking opportunities, a structured platform to engage leadership from BASF and Magna, and more. Apply to the program by Sept. 30!

Finally, join us in just a couple of weeks for the Low-Carbon Hydrogen Accelerator’s Final Showcase on Sept. 29 to hear how the first-of-its-kind startup-corporate partnerships accelerator—from EPRI, Shell, the City of Houston, Greentown, and the Urban Future Lab at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering—has enabled the startup participants Advanced Ionics, Arco Technologies, Clean Power, Element Resources, Smartpipe Technologies, SPEC Sensors, and RUNWITHIT Synthetics to advance their low-carbon hydrogen solutions.

Fervo Energy raised $138M to expand its geothermal energy generation in the western U.S.
Syzygy Plasmonics announced plans to test a fully electric clean hydrogen chemical reactor in partnership with LOTTE Chemical and Greentown partner Sumitomo Corporation of Americas.
Criterion Energy Partners obtained a 10,000-acre lease in Texas for its upcoming commercial geothermal project.
CalWave Power Technologies successfully concluded an open-ocean wave energy pilot supported by Department of Energy funding.
CeraPhi Energy entered an agreement with Halliburton and will receive their support in the engineering and development of its patented geothermal technology.
Dash Clean Energy secured a $1.2 million grant from the California Energy Commission.
Criterion Energy Partners announced a strategic partnership with Chesapeake Energy Corporation to advance the company’s plan to deploy and develop technologies for geothermal energy development.
