Thanks to everyone who joined us at our first events of the year—an EnergyBar to kick off 2025 at Greentown Boston and Canary Live at Greentown Houston! We were thrilled to have our newly appointed CEO Georgina Campbell Flatter speak at the EnergyBar (check out her remarks here), and look forward to having her join Greentown Houston’s Transition On Tap during CERAWeek next month.

These events are just the tip of the iceberg; read on for our full events lineup, featuring everything from the Carbon to Value Initiative Year 4 Final Showcase, to an EnergyBar featuring new startup members, to Greentown Houston’s fourth anniversary celebration.

In other exciting news, this week we announced the third cohort for ACCEL—an accelerator from Greentown and Browning the Green Space designed to support BIPOC-led climatetech startups by offering access to funding, networking connections, resources, and opportunities that structural inequities put out of reach. And earlier this month, we published Greentown’s 2024 impact report. What does climate action look like? Climatetech startups receiving funding, winning awards, deploying their tech around the world, and more! Read a roundup of our members’ recent milestones here and check out some highlights below:

MacroCycle, which upcycles lower-value plastic waste into virgin-grade plastic with zero carbon emissions, raised a $6.5M seed round co-led by Greentown partner Clean Energy Ventures.
XTPL, developer of a breakthrough, additive manufacturing technology for the ultra-precise printing of nanomaterials, received an order from the University of Cambridge and signed a non-exclusive distribution agreement with Printed Electronics Corporation.
Haffner Energy—which designs, manufactures, supplies, and operates biofuel and hydrogen solutions using biomass residues—signed a strategic partnership with ATOBA Energy that "secures long-term offtake agreements, unlocking financing and accelerating the scale-up of SAF production."
Imperium Technologies, whose electrochemical solution reduces industrial heating greenhouse-gas emissions by 20 percent by addressing steam systems’ failures, closed $1.2M in funding.

Active Surfaces—developer of an ultra-lightweight, flexible solar module that is more than 10x lighter than traditional panels—reached a major milestone this winter, when it demonstrated its fully functional solar module in Greentown’s rooftop lab. This successful, inaugural outdoor field test will allow the startup to continue fine-tuning its technology in advance of pilot projects with commercial and industrial partners later this year. change:WATER Labs’s “shrink wrap for crap” is enabling no-water, no-power, and no-plumbing sanitation systems by rapidly evaporating 95 percent of human waste without any type of energy. Watch its CEO’s pitch.

Phytoform Labs is developing a gene-edited “tiny tomato” that is both short and horizontally compact, about one-sixth the size of a traditional tomato plant with five times the yield per area. Their size means they require less water, fewer nutrients, and lower energy expenditures, plus they’re perfect for indoor, vertical farming. Read more.

The 2025 MIT Energy Conference will feature more than 10 Greentown startups at its Climate & Energy Showcase! This year’s conference theme is “Breakthrough to Deployment: Driving Climate Innovation to Market.”

March 6: ACCEL Year 3 Kickoff Event [Greentown Boston]
Join us to celebrate the kickoff of Year 3 of ACCEL! At this event, you’ll hear from the recently announced cohort of innovative, BIPOC-led startups working across agriculture, buildings, electricity, manufacturing, resilience and adaptation, and transportation.

March 6: Climatetech Innovation Across Markets [New York]
Attend the culmination of Year 5 of the Innovate UK Global Incubator Programme, led by the Urban Future Lab at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, Greentown, and Innovate UK.

March 13: CERAWeek Transition On Tap [Greentown Houston]
Our March Transition On Tap networking event—sponsored by Trade and Invest British Columbia—will take place during CERAWeek 2025, offering the energy-transition ecosystem an opportunity to come together around climatetech during this major Houston conference.

On March 11, you can also catch Georgina at “Financing the Future: Scaling Clean Energy Through Innovative Investment Strategies,” which will dive into the role of financial markets, green finance, ESG investing, and private equity in funding the deployment of clean-energy technologies at scale, and our Board Chair Bobby Tudor at "The Green Gold Rush: A Multi-trillion-dollar Opportunity?"
Greentown startups will be out and about during CERAWeek as well—about 30 of our Houston and Boston members and alumni will be featured at the Innovation Agora!
On March 10, join the Climate & Energy Ventures (CEV) and Climate and Energy Prize (CEP) Reunion to connect with alumni from CEV and CEP, industry leaders, investors, and energy innovators in a casual and engaging setting.

March 25: 2025 Cleantech Open Northeast Kickoff Party [Greentown Boston]
