Thanks to everyone who joined us at last week’s Transition On Tap to celebrate our newest startups! We’ve welcomed 12 new members to Greentown Houston this year, and were thrilled to have nine of these members pitch to a room full of industry leaders, investors, and more.

Our 2025 events lineup continues in August with another edition of our signature Transition On Tap networking event. Then we’ll have a fall full of opportunities to engage with Greentown and our startups, from the Houston Climate and Energy Startup Week (Sept. 15 through 19), to our ACCEL Year 3 Showcase (Sept. 18), to our largest event of the year, Climatetech Summit (Nov. 4 in Houston and Nov. 6 in Boston).

Wattsto Energy is the manufacturer of a long-duration-energy-storage system with a unique hybrid design that provides fast, safe, sustainable, and cost-effective energy storage at the microgrid and grid levels.

Newfound Materials is the predictive engine for materials R&D, unlocking new synthesis pathways to the world’s most critical materials.

Startup News

Terralytiq—whose enterprise software platform helps manufacturers cut supply chain costs and carbon—announced an investment from and strategic partnership with Greentown partner Schneider Electric’s VC arm, SE Ventures.
Haffner Energy was selected for the first Renewable Energy Valley project, where it will partner on a bio-hydrogen plant that will produce 240 tonnes of mobility-grade hydrogen per year and avoid 2,880 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
Cemvita achieved key performance milestones for two of its products, FermOil and FermNPK, which provide low-carbon alternative feedstock for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and support regenerative agriculture, respectively.
Greentown alum Syzygy Plasmonics began development of the world’s first electrified-biogas-to-SAF plant in Uruguay, which will produce more than 350k gallons of SAF from dairy and agri-energy feedstock.
Greentown alum Fervo Energy secured $206M in financing for its Cape Station geothermal project. It also "drilled its hottest and deepest well yet—at 15,000 feet and 500 degrees Fahrenheit—in just 16 days” and made LexisNexis's list of the 10 Most Innovative Startups in Texas.

Introducing: the Startup Resources Network

We’re excited to announce a new way to engage with the Greentown community: our Startup Resources Network! This program connects providers of software and business resources with our entrepreneurs, fostering mutually beneficial relationships where startups gain access to crucial tools and providers can amplify their impact and visibility within our ecosystem.

By joining the program, resource providers enter into conversation with a dynamic community of entrepreneurs, potential customers, and industry leaders. They also have the opportunity to provide invaluable expertise, networks, and resources to support the growth of climatetech startups.

Applications are Open for the Carbon to Value Initiative Year 5

The Carbon to Value Initiative (C2V Initiative)—a unique collaboration among the Urban Future Lab at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, Greentown, and Fraunhofer USA—is now accepting applications for our fifth accelerator cohort!

We’re looking for startups with innovations including, but not limited to:

Carbon conversion to added-value products
Carbon capture
Carbon sequestration and removal
Enabling technologies

Selected startups will engage with the initiative’s Carbontech Leadership Council, an invitation-only group of corporate, nonprofit, and government leaders actively shaping the future of carbontech.

Since its launch in 2020, the C2V Initiative has supported 35 carbontech startups.
